Job Description Job Title: Center Apheresis Medical Specialist Location: Indianapolis, IN Duration: 06 Months Contract (Potential temp to perm) Pay Rate : $40/hr. - $55/hr. (depending on experience) Shift Time: 1st shift; Monday-Friday (8am-4:30pm) Summary: Under the supervision of the center responsible physician (e.g., Center Medical Director) and Center Management the Center Apheresis Medical Specialist will ensure donor eligibility, product integrity and the continued good health of donors through the compliance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Manual guidelines. The Center Apheresis Medical Specialist will be responsible for oversight and performance of leukapheresis procedures in accordance with all approved SOPs and FDA regulations as well as monitoring donor status before, during, and after procedures, monitoring for and managing adverse reactions and adjusting the procedure as needed. Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and currently certified/licensed in the state of employment and according to state requirements as a Registered Nurse (RN). Current CPR certification required. Qualification in Apheresis (QIA) certification preferred. Primary responsibilities for role: Promote customer satisfaction through appropriate interaction and responsiveness to customer needs Builds rapport with donors to ensure overall customer satisfaction with the center to support long term donation. Selection of eligible plasmapheresis and leukapheresis donors by performing physical examinations and taking medical histories on all donors through the use of FDA approved Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Manual, current State and Federal guidelines, OSHA, CLIA, CGMP, all internal company procedures and personal education and experience. Preparing donors for plasmapheresis and leukapheresis procedures, explaining the process, and addressing any concerns Monitoring donors during plasmapheresis and leukapheresis procedures and responding promptly to any adverse reactions. Assemble, restock, QC, and maintain supplies and equipment in a state of readiness to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment. Operating apheresis equipment and ensuring accurate collection and processing of blood components. Perform pre-donation donation screening and lab testing using based on specific requirements of the plasmapheresis or leukapheresis procedure. Responsible for donor awareness to potential risks and hazards specific to the procedure being performed. Administration of donor consent form. Provides Donor education on trends identified regarding general health assessment completed at the Center. Provides counseling to Donors regarding unacceptable test results. Evaluates, manages, and documents donor injuries and adverse events, including administration of necessary medications. Performs evaluations of any history of illness or medications to ensure continued donor eligibility. Ensures Donor medical information is complete and accurate prior to donation. Review of donor screening tests to ensure eligibility of continued donation. Serve as a designated trainer for the leukapheresis procedure. Assist with maintaining and troubleshooting apheresis equipment, ensuring it is in proper working order. Maintain supplies necessary to perform job duties. Maintains and ensures proper sanitation and cleaning of equipment and work areas between donors. Ensures Donor and Staff confidentiality. Reports all unsafe situations or conditions to Center Management. Collaborate with center quality management on continuous quality improvement projects. Collaborate with center management on scheduling leukapheresis procedures to ensure proper staffing and availability of all needed resources. Perform other duties as required which may include leukapheresis products logistics such as packing, shipping, labeling. Additional Responsibilities: Works under direct supervision until fully trained and then general supervision once trained. Handles all levels of medical issues in the center and may review complex cases with the Center Medical Director. May direct or administer a hyper immune program. May assist with company research trials. Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Proficiency in performing venipuncture and managing various types of vascular access. Knowledge of apheresis techniques, equipment, and related medical conditions. Strong assessment skills with the ability to handle all donor eligibility determinations. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Good understanding of both verbal and written English. Where applicable written and verbal bi-lingual skills. Ability to understand and follow SOPs and protocols. The ability to organize, prioritize and complete daily, weekly and monthly tasks in a high paced, highly regulated environment following strict protocols regarding audits and detailed documentation. Has the skills to delegate when appropriate. Computer proficient in web-based training and Word. Experience: Requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience providing medical care and assessing patients. Experience in therapeutic apheresis, plasma collection, or whole blood experience preferred.
