DepartmentCTR FOR INNOVATIVE TCH & LRNG (BL-CITL-IUBLA)Department InformationThe Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) provides comprehensive services supporting excellent teaching and learning at Indiana University Bloomington, reporting to the Division of Undergraduate Education at Indiana University Bloomington. The CITL has an active commitment to promoting equitable and inclusive teaching, and for building a supportive community for its staff and faculty clientele. Job SummaryThe Instructional Consultant / Distance Learning Specialist (IC/DLS) provides support for faculty and academic units on the design and teaching of inclusive online courses, and collaborates with CITL colleagues in broader initiatives aimed at promoting innovative and inclusive teaching in a variety of modalities and settings.Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides instructional support and guidance to faculty members through both individual consultations and group activities.
  • Develops programs for training faculty in online course design and instruction, with emphasis on scalable group-based programs and the use of the Quality Matters framework.
  • Creates online resources to support programming and related initiatives.
  • Participates in outreach activities to academic departments/schools and other campus partners to support online courses and programs.
  • Acts as the IUB campus contact for training/support for Quality Matters.
  • Manages internal Quality Matters reviews at the Bloomington campus.
  • Collaborates with CITL colleagues on related educational development initiatives; Participates in assessment of CITL programming and resources.
  • Keeps current with professional development literature and relevant technologies.General Responsibilities
    • Provides support and guidance to faculty in both individual and group settings regarding instructional support, pedagogical practice, classroom management, and federal regulations like FERPA and Title IX.
    • Determines additional support needs through consultation and designs resources to meet educational support needs.
    • Participates in educational resources initiatives in coordination with faculty and staff to improve student academic outcomes and improve classroom experience.
    • Trains teaching assistants, associate instructors, and graders in grading methods, responding appropriately to student concerns, and resolving complex issues.
    • Plans seminars, workshops, and other events for faculty, associate instructors, and students, as requested and appropriate by faculty.
    • Advances programs from individual consultations/workshops to larger-scale transformative events/projects when appropriate.
    • May oversee student testing administration and consult regularly with students regarding coordination of educational resources.
    • May serve as an informational resource and/or delegate tasks to administrative staff.QualificationsCombinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education. EDUCATIONRequired
      • Bachelor's degree in related field. Preferred
        • Master's degree. WORK EXPERIENCERequired
          • 2 years of experience in a related field. Preferred
            • 2 years of experience in faculty consulting, instructional design, or related fields.
            • Experience working with instructors on designing/teaching online courses.
            • Experience teaching at the college level, particularly online courses.SKILLSRequired
