Position Summary:Responsible for a wide range of maintenance activities within the plant. Diagnoses and repairs machines and facilities systems, working closely with other maintenance staff, machinists and outside service vendors to accomplish the objective of keeping machines operating in a safe and productive manner and facilities in good repair. Oversees, or participates in a number of building maintenance issues. Responsibilities MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: (*indicates peripheral functions)

Performs repair and maintenance on machine tools and production equipment in the plant in order to provide a high level of machine availability, reliability and safety.Responds to requests to diagnose and repair machines that are not functioning properly, using service manuals and schematics to assist with troubleshooting.Performs work within a variety of technical fields, including electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic and controls.Provides training and assistance to operators regarding maintenance that can be performed by operators, or actions that can be taken to avoid problems with machines or facilities systems.Works in concert with other maintenance staff and with outside vendors to solve machine tool and equipment problems.Maintains records of the status of work orders and keeps a file of maintenance activities.Responsible for the fabrication of various types of framing, machine tool shielding and guarding stands, by taking measurements from existing equipment or machine tools and then designing and building to fit.
Use of welding equipment, cutting and sawing equipment and grinding equipment as basic fabrication requirements would indicate.Moves machines by disconnecting power, air, water or other connections and resets machines in new locations, leveling and re-connecting service lines.Performs basic maintenance electrical installation and repair.Perform basic and high-end preventative maintenance (PM) on equipment; including greasing, oiling, cleaning and following PM procedures and schedulesOrders parts and supplies to meet expected maintenance requirements. Maintains source information for parts and materials that are not stocked.Operates and maintains all recycling, waste systems.
Monitors condition of, and recycles coolants, oils, cardboard and metals used in or generated as part of the production process. Performs necessary testing and handling of water, coolant, fluids, and other materials as per applicable requirements.Responsible for handling and disposal of any hazardous waste from the facilities. Recommends the purchase of replacement machines when service expense and general condition indicate.Coordinates activities of outside vendors. Interacts with vendors who participate in periodic preventive maintenance work on machines.
Coordinates activities of sub-contractors who perform electrical, plumbing, or other building maintenance functions.Maintain clean and safe work areas.Other duties as assigned.QualificationsCOMMON PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: All employees are expected to deal with customers, vendors and co-workers in a positive and respectful way and perform their duties in a safe and effective manner. All employees are expected to conduct their jobs by the standards set forth in these publications. EQUIPMENT USED: Uses a computer terminal in addition to wide variety of equipment needed for maintenance, repair and facility up keep. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is mainly in a plant work environment with frequent exposure to normal office environments. Some driving is required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Strength, agility, movement: Work requires occasional lifting, bending, pulling, climbing, reaching or kneeling. Work includes frequent movement within the facility. Occasionally, work is in hard to reach locations or requires working in awkward positions. Occasional climbing and ladder work is required.
  • Sensory ability: Hearing must be sufficient to communicate by telephone, vision must be sufficient to read printed reports and items on the computer screen.
  • Communications: Verbal communication is constant; much of the time is spent exchanging ideas and information with various suppliers and internal departments.
  • Level of exertion: Work is occasionally heavy, with occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force to handle materials, equipment or when moving machinery. MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Reading: The position requires reading ability at a level sufficient to read text of considerable difficulty, requiring understanding of complex rules, technical procedures, reports, specifications, manuals or interpretations.
    • Writing: Writing skills are required at a level consistent with basic communication.
    • Verbal Skills: The position requires verbal skills at a level consistent with providing clear and concise information on technical matters.
    • Mathematical Ability: Math ability needs to be at a level consistent with calculating rates and proportions.
    • Reasoning Ability: Reasoning ability needs to be at a level consistent with solving apparent problems through well established procedures. Requires some independent judgment, as when dealing with safety issues or vendors. EMPLOYMENT SELECTION CRITERIA: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. Requires a high school diploma, or equivalent, plus 4 years of related technical training or equivalent of 6 years technical work experience. JOB SKILLS REQUIRED: Working knowledge of machinery, electrical equipment, powered industrial trucks. Driving may be required. Ability follow all safety instructions. Must have legal authorization to work in the United States. Relocation allowance may be provided if the individual has all of the necessary qualifications.
